About Dr. Neville Galloway-Williams
I’ve never been accused in my life of being shy. I might be known to swear in sessions on occasion--I’m just too authentic to filter sometimes. I will jump up and cheer (literally!) for you when it’s time to celebrate your accomplishments. Clients have described me as “caring but not a pushover,” “consistently genuine,” and “very active.”
As soon as we start meeting, my goal is to empower you to become your own therapist.
We will work together to create a treatment plan that is tailored to your goals and preferences and combines the latest research on effective treatments with my clinical expertise. Your last therapist was a little bit passive, and you never quite knew what your goals were, or exactly how you are working on them. You’ve come to me because you are looking for something more active. You are in the right place! I would hate to waste your time and money. You will always know what we are doing and why we are doing it, and it will always be in the service of you building a life of meaning and purpose.
Credentials & Training
I have a Ph.D in psychology from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. In graduate school, I conducted research on behavioral interventions and the mechanisms and effectiveness of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and I have attended numerous trainings in ACT. I trained in evidence-based treatments for PTSD and anxiety at the Baltimore VA, including completion of an year-long postdoctoral fellowship in the treatment of trauma among veterans. I’m a certified provider of Cognitive Processing Therapy, one of the most effective treatments for PTSD. I have extensive training in a variety of approaches that involve CBT and mindfulness, including Prolonged Exposure therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, and CBT for Insomnia.
Types of Therapy
The types of therapy I use fall under the umbrellas of cognitive behavior therapy and mindfulness-based therapies. This includes Cognitive Processing Therapy (certified provider), Prolonged Exposure therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, and Self-compassion Therapy. I focus on delivering Evidence-Based Treatments, meaning that everything I offer has been rigorously tested and meets high standards of effectiveness.
Issues Addressed
My primary areas of expertise are in the treatment of PTSD and anxiety. Other common issues I treat are those that tend to accompany the above, including but not limited to specific phobia, social phobia, depression, and insomnia.
